welcome

It keeps coming back to me
I remember this pain
It spreads across my eyes
Everything is dull

Everyone's smiling, they're smiling
It pushes me far far away
I can't understand
Everything is blue

Can you hear me out there?

Will you hold me now Hold me now My frozen heart
I'm gazing from the distance and
I feel everything pass through me
I can't be alone right now
Will you hold me now Hold me now My frozen heart
I'm lost in a deep winter sleep
I can't seem to find my way out alone
Can you wake me

I know when I let it in
It hides love from this moment
So I guard it close
I watch the moves it makes

But it gets me, but it gets me
I wish I could understand how I
Could make it disappear, make it disappear

Anyone out there hear me now?

Will you hold me now Hold me now My frozen heart
Kiss my lips
and maybe you can take me to your world for now
I can't be alone right now
Will you hold me now Hold me now My frozen heart
Please make it all go away
Am I ever gonna feel myself again?
I hope I will

Project ID 07
Monday, July 23, 2007 ( 1:13 PM )

Project IDentity 07 was held on 15th July 2007 at Toa Payoh Hub.
We had a string of performances from 11am to 630pm. And it was a success!

The emcees: Jarren and Claire

Jarren is super humorous. He scolded me and Shiyin when we told him we were lesbians.

" 死 Lesbians, why can't you give the guys out there a chance?!?" Laughed like mad upon hearing that statement of exasperation from Jarren. Claire was one of the VP for wsc, but she has now graduated from NTU. All kind souls. Cos they helped us emcee FOC and an emcee's job ain't easy if you know wut i mean.

The Freeloaders (graduates and undergraduates from NUS) gave us a wonderful ballade of songs with a dash of acoustic sounds. The lady in red, Shili, sang really well and yeah, the crowd loved them.

RSPID + Westend Trainees putting up their performance on stage. See them seating on the steps waiting for the cue to go up stage.

The MINDS Drummers!
They were very very very very fantastic with their drum performance! Kudos to them, pls they practised for 1 year plus to be this good. Intellectually Disabled people generally take more time to learn something new, compared to normal people like you and me. They really did a good job in mastering the drums and keeping in tune with the beats. See how enthusiastic they are, one of them even laid on the ground and beat the drum.

NTU Salsa En Sync!

Interesting dance, eh, can see their boy shorts underneath the skirts. And i remember somebody saying "actually girls got fats oso quite sexy." I think this item hit the "Se peh peh" alert.

I felt really bad, cos the stage was tiny and when they turned, they were giggling to themselves cos they hit each other during the turning.

Ting Ting, the trainee whom i personally taught her the piano pieces for her performance. She is really adorable and looks like a child, behaves like a child sometimes but she is actually 1 year older than me! She was a nervous wreck before going up the stage, but she played really well. She stumbled quite a bit during her 2nd round of performance. Personally, I think it was bcos of stress and strangers looking at her off the stage that made her stumbled. But our efforts didn't go to waste!

Crowd lining alongside the stage and on the 2nd level of Toa Payoh Hub.
There quite a number of bands that we engaged for our performance. Some were good, while some were exceptionally good! We have students from Funkies Monkies performing a few song items for us.

Our RSPID and Westend Trainees and volunteers performing alongside each other on stage for the Chicken Dance!
chick chick chick, quack quack quack, shake shake shake, clap clap clap. HAHA. The dance formation was thought of by mr sng yu chao and of all the RSPID and Westend dance item, the chicken dance item was the most challenging one! Good job.

Mr lightning fingers! The crowd drawing performance conducted by Mr Lightning Fingers was AWESOME! The trainees and little children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were entertained by the various balloon sculptures made by him! He really knows how to please the crowd!

See Ji Ming, posing his Wang Fei Hong Stance with his Mickey Mouse balloon sculpture in toll!

Focusis, Lee hin's friends from a music school. I think the photos here nv do justice to their performance. Personally, I liked their song and dance item, bcos it was different from all the performances that we had. Anyway, when they sang and dance, "Se Peh Peh" alert also sounded high. I could see alot of uncles looking at them from 2nd level.

RSPHI!! WOW, I was blown away by their song-signing performance! All their dances and formations were so nicely choreographed, although i dunno what they were signing, but wow, it was so nice! And, the ex-coordinator and current coordinator of RSPHI were really nice and kind people!

Hall 8 productions: SING AND STRUM!!! I was from hall 8 previously and they were one of the bands I approached first.

Little Monsters was the last band and stage performance. By that time, I was already zoned out from making sure all the performers come on time and are on stand-by for their performance. Little Monsters - has Esther (keyboardist), Kian (singer), Felicia (singer) and Leonard (guitarist). Kian is our RSPID volunteer and Logistics personnel for RSPID Committee 07/08.

Lastly, we have all the volunteers and main commers of Project ID 07 up on stage ! Project ID 07 was a success and I hoped I did my bit for the IDs this year. The theme was "Leaf Your Love, Colour Their Lives!" We had a tree, and up on the tree, were leaves and bookmarks for well-wishers and donators to write their wishes on the tree. Well, maybe some of you guys dunno wut ID means, It means intellectually disabled! Here are some myths and facts about IDs.

Myth 1: People with intellectual disability are mentally ill

Fact 1: People with intellectual disability do not develop normally and have limited thinking abilities, (they are not insane ok?) However, with guidance, they can lead fulfilling and independent lives.

In fact, MINDS has 2 training and development Centres that emphasize in self-help, home management and social skills to promote independent living for people with intellectual disability. For IDs who are athletic, they can also take part in the Special Olympics, which promotes sports for IDs.

Myth 2: People with intellectual disability cannot think.

Fact 2: People with intellectual disability have intellectual functioning which is significantly below average yet, many are able to develop basic literacy.

There are currently 5 special schools (Guillemard Gardens School, Jurong Garden School, Lee Kong Chian Gardens School, Towner Gardens School and Yio Chu Kang Gardens School) for the intellectually disabled. These schools provide special education for IDs from ages 4 to 18 years old and trains them in basic academic and social skills to prepare them for independent living, integration into society and future employment.

Myth 3: People with intellectual disability do not belong to our community.

Fact 3: People with intellectual disability can take part in all activities if the public is willing to give them a chance

At the MINDS youth group, there are about 170 volunteers teaching and befriending our 172 intellectually disabled clients across the island. Activities include sing-along, themed learning, sports, games and outings to fun places! Visit www.myg.org.sg for more information.

Myth 4: People with intellectual disability cannot work and is a burden to the society.

Fact 4: Some people with intellectual disability have vocational skills and are part of the workforce.

MINDS have three employment and development centres which prepares IDs for employment and integration into the society and provides vocational training, social skills training and sheltered employment for IDs. IDs in SIA-MINDS EDC recycle headsets for major airlines such as SIA and Qantas. MINDS' corporate partnerships with Merrill Lynh and BP Singapore led to the employment of IDs to provide car-washing services at local petrol stations.
